Outpost Security Suite Free 7.1 adds second anti-malware engine
Agnitum has released version 7.1 of its flagship product, Outpost Security Suite FREE. It’s a maintenance upgrade for the most part, with under-the-hood bug fixes and minor tweaks, but there are some notable exceptions.
Top of the list is the inclusion of a second anti-malware engine. The suite now includes one antivirus engine, and a second focused on spyware, adware and trojans. The company claimed in a blog post that this offers “double the protection” and “more targeted security for Windows users”; there are no related controls or options exposed in the interface, though, so you can continue to use Outpost Security Suite as you always have.
Another major change in this build appears in the Update settings. In the past, Outpost Security Suite FREE users have been restricted to one update a day, but 7.1 will by default download updates automatically, and just as soon as they appear on the Agnitum servers. The only disadvantage of using the FREE version is now download speed: owners of Outpost Security Suite PRO get priority in the queue, and a greater share of any available bandwidth.
Outpost Security Suite FREE 7.1 has also followed the PRO version by adding a Language option, that allows the interface to be displayed in English or German (Settings > General > Interface language).
And of course you still get all the regular antivirus tools, a strong firewall, spam filter, and plenty of real-time protection. Outpost Security Suite FREE is looking better than ever, then, and version 7.1 is available now in both 32-bit and 64-bit editions.
